Position Overview

We are seeking a Vice President of Data Center Operations to lead and scale operations across a portfolio of large, mission-critical data center campuses in North America. This executive will own the full operational lifecycle, from campus readiness and go-live through steady-state operations, ensuring exceptional safety, availability, reliability, and customer service.

This role is responsible for building high-performing operations organizations, developing scalable processes, and driving continuous improvement across infrastructure, systems, and people. The Vice President will work cross-functionally with engineering, construction, finance, procurement, and customers to ensure seamless transitions from build to operate and long-term operational and financial excellence.

This is an opportunity to shape and mature operations within a rapidly growing data center platform supporting next-generation cloud and AI infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver near-perfect performance across safety, security, and availability for employees, customers, and infrastructure.

  • Lead end-to-end operations for all data center sites, including facility management, maintenance, uptime monitoring, and physical security.

  • Design and implement scalable operational processes, SOPs, and standards aligned with industry best practices (e.g., Uptime Institute, ISO, NIST, SOC 2).

  • Build, lead, and develop site operations teams, including hiring, training, performance management, and leadership development.

  • Establish and track KPIs related to uptime, operational efficiency, capacity planning, energy usage, and cost optimization.

  • Drive year-over-year productivity improvements through automation, waste reduction, and process standardization.

  • Partner closely with engineering, construction, real estate, procurement, and customer teams to ensure smooth handoffs and integrated planning.

  • Oversee operations for mechanical and electrical infrastructure, network deployment and cabling, physical security, environmental health and safety, and site logistics.

  • Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets, ensuring financial discipline and variance control.

  • Own operational risk management, incident response, disaster recovery, and business continuity planning.

  • Lead outage management and customer communications during critical events with clarity, accountability, and professionalism.

  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, high standards, and continuous improvement.

  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and customer requirements to influence infrastructure and operational strategy.

  • Represent the organization with customers, local authorities, and external stakeholders as required.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in data center operations or mission-critical infrastructure, including 5+ years in senior leadership roles.

  • Demonstrated success scaling operations in high-growth, multi-site data center environments.

  • Deep technical knowledge of critical infrastructure systems (power, cooling, mechanical, electrical).

  • Strong understanding of regulatory, environmental, and safety requirements.

  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, distributed teams.

  • Experience managing large operating budgets, vendors, and facilities contracts.

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate vision into executable operational plans.

  • Willingness to travel to data center sites as needed.

Preferred Experience

  • Greenfield data center launches or early-stage site operations.

  • Hyperscale, colocation, or large-scale mission-critical environments.

  • Energy efficiency, sustainability initiatives, or alternative power solutions.

  • Strong operational judgment, resilience under pressure, and a “trust but verify” leadership style.

  • High standards, humility, curiosity, and a commitment to learning from failures.
